Ditch digging really is a bitch

We have been talking about waterproofing the foundation for years now. Suddenly the job has begun. I must say I am horrified at how hard it looks to be a ditch digger. Especially at the side of our house where there's no where to put the dirt. Uncle Gene started the job, just because the day before Dad mentioned it to him, he came and dug and I didn't even know he was there, (gosh my naps are such a good sound sleep)
It took me two days to figure out what the mud foot prints were doing on the porch. He came back to work more (4 hours per day was all he could handle) It's taking so long because he was filling 5 gallon buckets and using the wagon to go all the way around the house to the back of the garden and dump the dirt. Gene's second day of digging he brought his friend Smitty who has a bad back and probably doesn't weigh more than 100 pounds. Smitty was pretty much helpless. All Gene wanted him to do was pull the wagon and that job was way too hard for him. After Gene quit for the day Patrick came and dug some more, he brought a wheel barrel which made the job a little easier, but this hot weather isn't helping the problem. This hole is about 5 feet deep, thank goodness we have a Michigan half basement. and so far after three days of digging and moving dirt, I'd say they got it nearly half dug out. I am tired just watching this mess.

That looks like hard work.
