I thought for sure I would be able to somewhat step back into time. I really miss the High School concerts and plays, but this was going to be my lucky year. You see Paddy boy joined a Jazz group with a friend and has been practicing at Wayne State Uni. The Uni. has several Jazz Bands that they named Jazz/ Jazz lab 1/ Jazz lab 2/ and Pat is in Jazz lab 3. He'd told us about it some time ago and a few weeks ago he mentioned a Concert on December 2. Boy was I ever excited!
I told Pat, me and Dad were going to go.
Where do I go is the question? Paddy says Schaver ? Auditorium, then later he says it's at Old Main. So I look at Wayne States web site that has a campus map, this should be easy, the map has each building clearly labeled including visitor parking.
I have never ever been to the Uni. , nor has Pat (the dad) So look at the site and on the right is Please choose a location a drop down menu, I choose Venues & Auditoriums. The map shows Music and I click that building and LO- It's called Emma Lazaroff Schaver Music building. This must be the place so I print and circle the lot we can park in.
But wait, Paddy also said Old Main. What does that mean? The drop down menu has Old main, I look at that and it's several blocks away This made no sense to me. Does Old main mean the general area? The map shows Old Main takes up the whole block. My decision was to park near the music building about a block away right on Woodward & Ferry. we walk in the rain 15 minutes early, into the building that is so quiet you could hear a pin drop, The auditorium was locked and no one around.
Dad called Paddy and asked again where to go, the connection was breaking up, Dad said we were to go down stairs, to make sure we were right, we described Art work outside the building. Dad said Pat told him we are in the right place just go to the basement.
OMG the basement was way tore up and miles of hall ways, I can't walk far anymore and we walked and walked until we got to the other side of the building and saw the Custodians lunch room, they said we was in the wrong place. We asked everyone who passed us where Jazz Lab 3 might be having a concert.. At last we get directed to Old Main, a building at the other end of Campus.

By now I wanted to die. My legs have no blood circulation, it hurts like mad to carry all this weight,Thank you Marlboro Man
Anyway we get to the building It's time for Paddys band to start. We saw one paper sign taped on a wall on the second floor Schaver something We wondered all through that damn building, it was getting late, my legs were melting, my pain was intense, I couldn't go on. I gave up, I want to go home. We have a long walk back to the car.
Remembering something Paddy said;" I feel funny, my Mom and Dad coming to my concert" Like this isn't high school any more? And also he said; "Yes you are in the right place, just go downstairs"
Something tells me he rather we didn't show up??
