Fun day on the streets

Back in the 60's on lazy summer nights, every Friday night was a block party. We just didn't call it that. Our parents sat on their porches while all the kids ran around playing hide n' seek, or jacks, or jump rope. At the ripe age of 10 I didn't have a worry in the world. Most average families had a stay at home mom, and a hard working Father. Yes, it was pretty rare to have both parents working. Indeed it was a wonderful time in my life, not only did we know and trust the neighbors on our street, we knew most of the people in the whole neighborhood.

I notice these days, new homes being built have decks in the back of the house with tall fences for privacy, you could go years before you know the peoples names who live right next door to you.

Our good neighbors Shelia and Tracy made it a point to have a block party a few years ago to get the neighbors out and meet, it's been an annual event ever since. Well we do our best to show our faces and come to the front of our homes and get to know each other. It's still not like the 60's, because we still sorta stay at our own homes but we can at least see each other from a distance lololol. We all just need to *bunch up a bit better* All in all it was a very nice day and I am sure the children had fun!
