Retirement didn't help, when it comes to daily schedules. I can come and go as I please, sleep when ever. In some respects that's good then in others it's not so good. Yesterday I was soundly sleeping at 12:30 noon time when I heard a huge ruckus, I jumped outta bed because I could hear Pat plunging the toilet and Hollering %^$#*(&*., Lots of banging and running up and down the stairs. So alright, I'll get up and see whats going on around here.
The toilet wasn't overflowing, Paddy boy was over, and Pat was still shouting random &^%$*#^%#... They both were over excited and did a bad job on explaining to me what was going on. Pat was saying it was the men working outside doing this. Paddy said the sinks, and shower drains were shooting out sewage like a geyser, straight up to the ceilings. Toilet too, Just like Old Faithful. Up stairs too, the toilet, tub, sink all shooting black water to the Ceiling, they were sitting in the dining room when it happened and witnessed the kitchen sink shooting water up. I asked Paddy to check the basement to see if it was flooded and coming up the floor drains, there was a puddle there too.
So let me back up one day. Just two houses down around the corner, trucks were there and men working, The truck labeled Sewer camera something or another, they worked there all day long, the machine they were running was really LOUD. Then the next day the trucks were right behind my garage in the ally working in the sewer there.
It was 1:00 now and I went back there to see what was going wrong, the truck had hoses in a man hole behind my garage that I didn't even know existed,(er I knew the garage was there, it's the man hole I didn't know about) they had to dig to uncover the man hole about one and a half feet or so. I walked all over the area and no men were there to be found, they went to LUNCH for gods sakes and left that thing running or something
So I gave them another half hour and went back out to see a guy messing around with his truck and hoses, and asked him what was happening to my house? I had sewer gases and needed to open all my windows to air the house out. We were running water in all the sinks and shower after the clean up. The man said at the corner they were trying to blow out cement that was stuck in the sewer causing bad drainage, and it got stuck farther down the line so needed to continue their work behind my house. The power-full air hose backed water into my house. He said he will be back tomorrow to finish the job and will warn me first so I can run water.
Then he got done for the day and I went back out to look at the hole they dug to see how well it was covered and to my surprise the actual man hole cover was on it but the hole was at least a foot deep left open. That would be one hell of a stuck van if I didn't know it was there and backed out of my garage. That alley is dark someone walking through would not see the hole and break a leg, I wish I would have taken a picture of it, as a matter of fact I wish I had photos of the mess in my house. That was one powerful machine they had running back there. Pat wants me to plug the drains up with what ever will fit tight for tomorrow but I fear they would shoot out like bullets.
I really don't think running water when they start that thing up again will stop the super power coming in the other way. I don't think the guy understood that they shot water into my house, he's thinking I am worried about the gases and this is why he tells me to run water to fill the traps. I am all for good drainage but I would rather have it draining the other way OUT
